Our Child Safeguarding Commitment

Our Commitment

To maintain this environment we commit to the following:

  • Zero-Tolerance for Harm:  We have no place for abuse, neglect, or any form of harm. We always act in the best interests of the child, ensuring their wellbeing takes priority in every club decision.

  • Cultural Safety & First Nations Respect: We recognise that a safe environment is one that values identity. We are committed to ensuring First Nations children and those from all cultural backgrounds feel safe, respected, and free from racism.

  • A Shared Responsibility: Safety is a team effort. Every member of the United community is responsible for upholding these standards.

  • Safe People & Background Checks: We strictly adhere to ACT legislative requirements by ensuring all coaches, managers, and officials working with our junior teams hold current ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registrations.

  • The ACT Child Safe Standards (mandated under the Human Rights Commission Act 2005).

  • The Hockey Australia National Integrity Framework (NIF).

  • The ACT Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.

  • Transparent Communication: Providing regular updates via email and WhatsApp regarding club activities, schedules, and safety protocols.

  • Accessible Support: Ensuring our Child Safeguarding Officer is available to discuss any questions or concerns.

  • Providing our volunteers with resources to understand their roles under the National Integrity Framework.

  • Maintaining a confidential reporting process for any safety concerns.
