On Sunday 6th January 2013, United Hockey Club sadly lost one its most beautiful people to a long battle with breast cancer. Chris, a life member, was one of the clubs most vibrant members. Chris gave so much, not just to the club, but to the entire ACT Hockey community. Those that have had anything to do with Chris would know that she was a very caring and down to earth person and will be missed down at Lyneham Hockey Center and from all aspects of United Hockey Club. There is not a moment in the clubs history that hasn’t had a MacKinnon apart of it and Chris would have been there for nearly all of them. The memories of Chris, or Mrs Mac to some, blowing the whistle on the field and keeping the first grade girls in line during her long role as the teams manager as well as her ability to slow the men’s first grade game down, just as we needed it, by throwing that second ball on the field are a few of many memories that players and members of the club will hold close to their heart. Chris MacKinnon we will all miss you.
United Hockey Club and its wider community would like extends its deepest sympathy to the family John, Kate and Jonathan, Luke and Peta, Paul and grandchildren Zoe and Jonah.
A celebration of the life of Chris will be held in the Chapel of the Norwood Park Crematorium, January 11, 2013 commencing at 4:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the service.
Players and friends are encouraged to wear something purple on the day as it was Chris’ favourite colour.
